Happy Mothers Day!
I am often torn when it comes to Mothers Day: which one are we celebrating? The March one or the May one? or both? LOL. Regardless of this decision fatigue, I do not think we have enough days in a year to celebrate this phenomenon that is Motherhood.
Motherhood is filled with highs and lows, beautiful and sad moments, pain and joy, fear and hope, peace and of course chaos! No matter where you are on your Motherhood journey, you have to admit that nobody Sabi 100 %, babies do not come with a manual and we are all trying to figure it out and achieve some sort of balance.
Being a Mother means you have to figure it out, no matter what it is. Mom has the solution to everything abi? I tried to count the number of decisions I made in a day and that was when I realised what we call Mental Load. A simple outing with the kids has my brain going : “did I pack their water bottles, is my son wearing his t-shirt the right way, are the girls wearing matching sets of ribbons, are their tights torn? have I put the lunch box in the car (in case there’s traffic and they get hungry), do I have cash in my purse for emergency, is my phone charged? did I respond to the brand email? have I prepped for dinner? have we run out of diapers? what do I have to buy from the supermarket on my way back? why is everyone not in the car? have I locked the doors? did I spray anti perspirant??? ojigbijigbijigbi … shall I go on? you get the drift.
One of the major mental loads moms often carry is feeding. Trying to figure out what your entire family eats for 365 days in a year (for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) never ends. From planning, to budgeting, to shopping, to prepping and cooking…it is an endless loop. It is one of the major things I recently tackled, which is why I cannot stop talking about Meal Planning and Food Time Tables, it is because I am trying to manage our (moms) mental load. If you are a mom, you need it oh. If you know a mom, gift one to her, especially on a day like this.
