When I was doing this photoshoot the twins were in the corner, and my 3 year old Tani @tanistable ran up to pop her head in the photo, the photographer says “oh Tani, oya go”… but I insisted she can stay, after all that’s our reality. Her older two siblings are in school and the 3 younger ones (mommy’s handbag as they are called) are with mommy at work. Her appearance makes the photo more profound for International Women’s Day.
This year’s theme (Accelerate Action) reminds us that change doesn’t happen by chance—it happens when we take action. It’s time to move beyond conversations and push for real progress in gender equality, opportunities, and empowerment for women everywhere.
As a mom to four daughters, this mission feels even more personal. Every day, I look at their bright, curious eyes and think about the world they will grow up in. Will they have the freedom, opportunities, and respect they deserve? Or will they have to fight the same battles we did?
We have little girls depending on us to accelerate action—to break barriers, to challenge outdated norms, and to pave a smoother path for them. Whether it’s mentoring young girls, supporting women-led businesses, demanding equal opportunities, or using our voices to challenge the status quo—every action counts.
I want my daughters (and every girl out there) to grow up knowing that their dreams are valid, their voices are powerful, and their potential is limitless. The brands I have been able to build ; SISI YEMMIE, LITTLE BIG BITE and more, I could not have done without support. Without women giving feedback that they need resources like Food Timetable’s and Recipe Books and telling me what to include in these resources like The Domestic Guide, Eating For More (Nutrition for the first 1000 Days) to make it as valuable as they have been.
Now, let’s accelerate the momentum! Let’s be bold, take up space, and ensure that the next generation of women inherits a world that truly values them. Shout out to all the women I know, and I don’t know, women that support me, women that support other women, women building, women existing, women all over the world, especially you (if you’re a man, waka pass and send this to women in your life lol. Your own day is coming)
What action will YOU take to uplift women today? 💜
